“It’s Springtime and the young man’s fancy turns to — — ‘Baseball.’” Did you hear that statement as you were growing up? Maybe we more appreciated the original statement (“It’s Springtime and the young man’s fancy turns to Love”) - but who doesn’t enjoy a night at the stadium watching a baseball game!
I don’t remember ever having any involvement with baseball games in my youth, but being married to a man who was offered a Baseball scholarship, but instead, chose to train and accept the role of a Christian Pastor, brought me immense joy, and watching him pitch on teams within the church leagues was exciting. Now as I have opportunity to attend the Major League Ball games I find it most enjoyable. I’m a Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim fan and I love every part of it, whether I am at the Angels stadium. watching the game on television, or listening on the radio. Of course I do a lot of “coaching” from wherever I am. I’ll bet you do, also.
Sometimes when I have the opportunity of going to the stadium to watch the game, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of gratitude to God for the beautiful out-of-doors, the meaningful singing of The Star Spangled Banner, the excitement of the game, and the interaction with other fans.
I just learned recently that the ‘Seventh Inning Stretch’ favorite song, Take Me Out To The Ball Game is commonly held to be the third most-often-played song in the United States, After “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “Happy Birthday to You”, and that 2008 marks the 100th anniversary of the lyrics, for which a 42-cent postage stamp was issued June 16, 2008 in Washington, D.C. during President George W. Bush’s first “Tee-ball on the South Lawn of the White House All-Star Game.”
Summertime in the United States can be very special.
Make every day special for you and yours.
